Dedication Ceremony for Research Cooperation Building Held

The new research center, which will be a leading base for global science research, has been completed, and its dedication ceremony was held on Friday, June 21 at 10 a.m.

Located near North A-hyeon Gate, Research Cooperation Building is a 12,405 square meters, four-story facility that has two stories underground. It will house Center for Quantum Nanoscience of the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) and laboratories, research rooms and classrooms for ELTEC College of Engineering of Ewha Womans University.

Ewha President Kim Heisook said, “I hope ELTEC College of Engineering and IBS’s Center for Quantum Nanoscience, both of which are expected to move into Research Cooperation Building, deliver outstanding educational and research outcomes, creating a foothold for further science and engineering research.”

Center for Quantum Nanoscience is a globally leading institution in conducting the study of controlling the quantum states of atoms on surfaces and interfaces. At Research Cooperation Building, instruments for the Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) will be installed to enable atomic research, and a state-of-the-art, vibration-free design has been applied accordingly.

In addition, open-labs, testing labs and research labs for Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, Architectural and Urban Systems Engineering, Climate and Energy Systems Engineering, and Mechanical and Biomechanical Engineering Division of College of Engineering are expected to move into Research Cooperation Building, nurturing creative convergent female leadership in the new industries.
