Opening and Vision Proclamation Ceremony Is Held for Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital and the College of Medicine’s New Campus

Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital held an opening ceremony on May 23 and officially began its medical service. With its opening, Ewha Womans University Medical Center plans to establish a dual hospital system with Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital and carry out truly patient-centered medical practice.

Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital, located in Magok District, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, is equipped with a capacity of 1,014 patient beds across ten above-ground floors and six below-ground floors after four years of construction begun in 2015. The Hospital is set up for the first time in Korea with the standard general care unit as three-person rooms and all intensive care units as one-person rooms to provide its patients with the best medical environment. It is a great advantage of the Hospital that Balsan Station of Subway Line 5 is connected to its exclusive exit and that Gimpo International Airport and Incheon International Airport is close to it, which provides excellent accessibility to patients both at home and abroad.

The mission∙vision proclamation ceremony for the College of Medicine was held at the auditorium located in the 3rd floor of the College of Medicine in Magok District on May 28. Ewha’s College of Medicine has established itself as a pioneer in the Korean women’s medicine by inheriting the tradition of “Boguyeogwan,” the first women’s hospital in Korea, where U.S. female doctor Meta Howard began medical service as the first doctor in 1887.

The College of Medicine has inherited this long-standing tradition and history and established a new vision as a future-oriented medical college suiting the demands of the 21st century with the transfer of the Magok campus. The new vision of the College of Medicine “Fostering doctors and medical scientists who lead the future of medicine and sympathize with the world” has its willingness to lead the future of medicine based on courage and a spirit of challenge.

Ewha Womans University, the College of Medicine and two Ewha Medical Center-affiliated hospitals plan to extend their role in research as a university hospital and thrive as a hub for global research by establishing “Ewha state-of-the-art convergence healthcare cluster” that organically links the education-research-medical treatment industries all together.
