AFMC, one of the top three medicinal chemistry federations, hosts the International Medicinal Chemistry Symposium (AIMECS) every two years. The event took place in the capital of South Korea this year, based on the theme of New Era of Medicinal Chemistry: Challenges and Opportunities. Two keynote speeches were delivered and around 300 abstracts from 19 sessions based on specific areas were presented in oral and poster presentations at the symposium. The event also served as a venue for global academic exchanges, attended by about 900 participants, delegates from the European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry and American Chemical Society, and global pharmaceuticals including Roche and Merck Group. Lectures provided by academics, researchers, and industry experts from all around the world shared various information ranging from drug discovery to clinical trial results.

Dr. Miguel A. Maria-Solano, a research professor from Spain who is working at the Global AI Drug Discovery Center, won the Best Poster Presentation Award with his research Computational Analysis of the Dynamic Allosteric Networks that Drive Adenosine A1 Receptor Activation. He is working on AI-based computational drug-discovery research at Ewha Womans University.

Ms. Yeojeong Kim, a student in the integrated Ph.D. program in Pharmacy, won the Best Poster Presentation Award as well with her research Expanding the Scope of c-Src Inhibitors: Designing Imidazole Derivatives as Dual Inhibitors of c-Src and Btk Kinases with Potential Therapeutic Applications. “It is such an honor for me to win an award at such a global symposium. I will strive to develop this research and achieve a good result. I deeply appreciate everyone who gave me an opportunity to give a presentation about my research,” said Ms. Kim.

The Global AI Drug Discovery Center is building an AI-based drug discovery platform, carrying out transdisciplinary research, and pushing forward drug discovery projects based on AI and big data in cooperation with academics, researchers, and industry experts.
