Professor Youngjoo Kwon from the College of Pharmacy was awarded the “Nokam Academic Research Awards” from the Pharmaceutical Society of Korea(PSK). The award ceremony was held at the "2020 Fall International Convention of PSK" at The K Hotel in Seoul on October 21.


The “Nokam Academic Research Awards” is given to a researcher who has published many internationally recognized research papers over the past five years, conducting active academic activities, and contributed to pharmacological field.


Using a multidisciplinary convergence research approach, Professor Kwon was selected as the winner of the award. She published more than 85 SCI(E) papers and registered 8 international and domestic patents by discovering causes of new drug resistance in triple-negative breast cancer and colorectal cancer. She also researched targeted drug therapy for Alzheimer's disease, cancerization, liver fibrosis.


She majored in Department of Chemistry, University of Houston for Ph.D. and continued Postdoctoral Associate at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular biology, Baylor College of Medicine. After being appointed as a professor at Ewha, she has operated a structural and chemical biological laboratory. She has currently focused on developing chemotherapeutics targeting HER2 positive cancers and triple-negative breast cancers. She has also been trying to understand the isoform-specific function of neuro-degenerative disease-related enzyme and to develop the isoform-specific inhibitors.
