Successful Completion of the 2019 Winter Ewha Global Frontier Program

2020.03.30

Seven teams from the 2019 Winter Ewha Global Frontier program visited countries including the U.S., the U.K., Denmark and Canada to carry out research abroad.

The office of student affairs (vice president Okkyoung Baek) hosts Ewha Global Frontier, an overseas exploration and research program, to promote global female leaders to foster challenging spirit, initiative, drive and problem-solving skills. For the winter program taking place during the winter break, seven teams of a total of 28 students were chosen with a 7.14:1 acceptance rate. Focusing on various themes, each team visited and explored international organizations, public institutions and universities in nine countries.

Ewha Global Frontier is a representative global education program that is popular among students, breaking the acceptance rate records every year. Teams selected for the program receive scholarship covering airfare and other expenses.

El-師 Team | EnVision Team

Among the participating teams during the winter break, ‘El-師’(El-Sa[Sa translates as teacher]) team visited Germany and Denmark, analyzing the need for innovation on futuristic educational space and seeking ways to adopt and promote them in Korea. ‘EnVison’ team, based on the theme of supporting visually-impaired people’s appreciation of art in a museum, visited museums and art museums in the Netherlands, France and Spain. Based on their analysis about the status quo of support for visually-impaired people’s appreciation of art, they created a museum accessibility guidebook for people with visual impairment.

K-Farm Team | Placebo Team

In addition, five teams composed of students in the same major carried out research on topics related to their major. ‘K-Farm’ team, comprised of chemical engineering and materials science majors, visited care farms in the Netherlands and Italy and proposed a sustainable model of Korean care farms. ‘Placebo’ team, with students of environmental science and engineering majors, visited package-free grocery stores, NGOs, environmentally friendly companies in Canada and presented a comparison of Korea and Canada’s plastic reduction policy and future plans as well as proposals.

Pharmily Team | Shall We Game Team | B.T.S. Team

‘Pharmily’ team, comprised of students from the department of pharmacy, visited the U.S., doing a research on the future of pharmaceutical services for the elderly and pharmaceutical care education in universities for the elderly. ‘Shall We Game’ team, comprised of educational technology majors, visited Germany and France, proposing strategies for promoting game as instruction media. Last but not least, ‘B.T.S.(Ballet Takes over the Stage)’ team, comprised of dance majors, visited the U.K. and discovered ways to make ballet more accessible by holding an interview with institutions such as The Royal Ballet and performing a ballet recital on the street, communicating with the crowd.

Ewha Global Frontier due to take place in the summer of 2020 is currently postponed because of COVID-19, holding off the selection process and program schedule.
