Professor Gyeongseok Choi, of Ewha Law school, is appointed as member of the International Bioethics Committee (IBC) of UNESCO


UNESCO (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) entrusted Gyeongseok Choi, professor of Law at Ewha Womans University, as an International Bioethics Committee member. 


The IBC was established in 1993 as an advisory body, composed of 36 bioethics experts from around the world. The secretary general of UNESCO appoints members of IBC, in four-year terms, who give advice and recommendations to the secretary general of UNESCO regarding bioethics issues including human cloning.


Prof. Choi's majors are in the field of bioethics, law of bioethics, and he is currently working as a professor of law at Ewha Law School and director of Ewha Institute for Biomedical Law &Ethics. He recently contributed to bioethical policies in Korea such as the 'Laws of bioethics and safety' in 2012 and laws concerning decisions on medical care for life prolongation for patients under hospice, palliative treatment and end of life.


Prof. Choi said, "Not only in Korea but also on an international level, I am going to devote myself to helping with the issues of bioethics, for the establishment and development of global bioethics through interactive communication with researchers and experts in the field."
