The Seoul Tobacco Control Center (Director Kim Hye-kyung, Professor in the Department of Health Convergence) was selected as an outstanding institution and received the Minister of Health and Welfare Commendation at the2025 Regional Tobacco Control Centers Performance Conference, held on June 16 at the Science and Technology Convention Center (ST Center).
The conference was organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Health Promotion Institute to share the achievements of regional tobacco control centers nationwide and disseminate best practices.
The Seoul Tobacco Control Center was recognized for its accomplishments in various areas, including fostering a smoke-free culture within the community and expanding partnerships with affiliated hospitals.
In particular, the center received high praise for providing smoking cessation support services to a total of 7,247 individuals from vulnerable populations between 2024 and the present, contributing to community health promotion and the creation of social value.
This year, the center has focused on operating customized smoking cessation programs for single-person households in Seoul, as well as smoking prevention and cessation programs based on resilience-building for adolescents. These initiatives provide differentiated services tailored to participants’ life stages and individual characteristics.
Director Kim Hye-kyung stated, “Being selected as an outstanding institution is a meaningful recognition of our efforts to promote the health of Seoul citizens and support populations that are particularly vulnerable to smoking. We will continue to help citizens successfully quit smoking and maintain smoke-free lifestyles in their daily lives.”
The Seoul Tobacco Control Center is a specialized institution that provides customized smoking cessation services for Seoul residents.
With the goal of creating a smoke-free Seoul, the center offers outreach-based smoking cessation services to vulnerable populations, including community-based groups and hospitalized patients. It also plays a pivotal role in Seoul’s tobacco control initiatives by establishing collaborative networks for community smoking cessation programs.
