On May 21, Hokma College of General Education’s Global Studies Division held the “2026 Spring Semester Ewha–Global Studies Division Step-Up Day.” The event was designed to help Global Studies Division students smoothly transition into university life and systematically strengthen their academic competencies as they prepare to enter their majors. The program featured a special lecture by a well-known foreign public figure who has successfully settled in Korea, as well as various networking opportunities connecting students with upperclassmen and alumni from the same fields of study.

The event opened with welcoming remarks from Kim Jihye, Director of the Global Studies Division. Director Kim encouraged the students, saying, “I am proud of and impressed by the students who have devoted themselves to their studies over the past year despite being in an unfamiliar environment. I hope this Step-Up Day will serve as a stepping stone for your upcoming major studies and future growth.”

Dean Lee Hae-young of Hokma College of General Education also delivered congratulatory remarks, praising the students: “The students of our Global Studies Division, who have grown by overcoming unfamiliar languages and cultural barriers while tackling daily challenges, are a source of pride and joy for us.”

Addressing students preparing to enter their majors, Dean Lee added, “I hope you will transform the concerns and uncertainties you may face into confidence and excitement for the future. I encourage you to continue growing within the strong and supportive network that is Ewha.”

From Broadcaster Lucky’s Special Lecture to Peer Networking Opportunities

The first program of the event, theGlobal Studies Division Career Insight Special Lecture, received an enthusiastic response from students with broadcaster and entrepreneur Lucky serving as the guest speaker. Under the theme, “The Best Plan is No Plan,” Lucky shared vivid stories and valuable advice drawn from his experience of settling in Korea 30 years ago. His candid reflections offered both comfort and inspiration to Global Studies Division students pursuing their dreams in a foreign country.<도전! 이화-글로벌학부 퀴즈 골든벨>에 참여하는 학생들The lecture was followed by theChallenge! Ewha–Global Studies Division Quiz Golden Bell. Students formed teams according to their intended majors, providing an opportunity to get to know their peers in advance. In particular, participants strengthened their understanding of the University’s history and deepened their sense of belonging by answering questions prepared in celebration of Ewha’s 140th anniversary.소통의 자리로 마련된 <선배와 함께하는 슬기로운 이화생활>

The event concluded withWise Ewha Life with Senior Students, the program’s central component. Designed as a networking session between Global Studies Division students preparing to enter their majors and international student upperclassmen who had already adapted to major-specific academic life, the program provided a valuable opportunity for participants to communicate openly and seek guidance. Students were able to ask questions they had long been curious about regarding their majors, discuss their future plans together, and build meaningful connections.

Reflecting the event’s goal of helping Global Studies Division students take the next step in their academic and personal growth, participants expressed high levels of satisfaction in the post-event survey, and the program concluded successfully.
