Professor Choi Sun of the College of Pharmacy has been appointed as President-Elect of the Korean Society of Organic Synthesis (KSOS). Professor Choi was elected through a vote of full members at the 31st Annual Conference and General Assembly of KSOS. Her term will begin on January 1, 2026, and she will serve as President for one year starting in January 2027.

Founded in 2010, the Korean Society of Organic Synthesis is an academic organization established to promote scholarly exchange and collaboration among experts who use organic synthesis as a research tool. Its membership spans not only fields in which organic synthesis itself is a primary focus, but also a wide range of disciplines that synthesize and utilize organic compounds, including chemistry, biology, medicine, pharmacy, agriculture, materials science, chemical engineering, and environmental engineering, across academia, industry, and research institutes. The society hosts academic conferences, tutorials, and workshops twice a year to facilitate the exchange of the latest research findings, strengthen collaboration, enhance research standards in related fields, and support graduate education and the development of early-career researchers. In addition, KSOS publishes its official international journal,Asian Journal of Organic Chemistry (Asian JOC), through Wiley-VCH, maintaining academic links with leading international journals such as theEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistryand serving as a hub for the global research community and networks.

Professor Choi is internationally recognized for her pioneering research introducing theoretical biophysical approaches based on AI and molecular modeling into pharmaceutical sciences. Her work includes drug design and development grounded in multiscale simulations and mechanistic studies at the quantum, atomic, and molecular levels, such as hybrid quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) methods. She has published more than 120 international SCI-indexed papers in world-leading journals, includingCell Metabolism,Nature Communications,Journal of the American Chemical Society,Angewandte Chemie, andJournal of Medicinal Chemistry, and has achieved numerous outcomes in domestic and international patent applications and registrations, as well as technology transfer to the pharmaceutical industry. As Director of Ewha Womans University’s Global AI Drug Discovery Research Center, Professor Choi has elevated Korea’s computer-aided drug discovery research to a world-class level. She has produced globally impactful research成果 through active interdisciplinary and convergent collaborations with leading institutions in Korea and abroad, including major global technology companies such as Microsoft and prominent partners in the United States, China, Japan, and Europe, while also advancing international joint research and industry–academia cooperation. Professor Choi is a full member of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology, and the first and only Asian Associate Editor ofACS Medicinal Chemistry Letters, a flagship journal of the American Chemical Society. She has also served as the Korean representative to the Asian Biophysics Association (ABA), Chair of the Scientific Committee of the Asian Federation for Medicinal Chemistry (AFMC), and currently serves as a Council Member (Korea) of the Asia-Pacific Protein Association (APPA), engaging in extensive global academic activities across regions and disciplines.
