Professor Kang Dongmin of the Department of Life Science received the Minister’s Commendation from the Ministry of Science and ICT in the field of National Biological Research Resources at the Life Research

Resources Performance Exchange Meeting held on Friday, December 19.

The Fluorescence Core Imaging and Analysis Center at Ewha Womans University, directed by Professor Kang, has been recognized for its outstanding research capacity and selected for several major national programs, including the Core Research Support Center Program (2019), the Bio Research Data Utilization Infrastructure Project (2022), and the Basic Science Research Capacity Enhancement Program – Infrastructure Advancement Project (2024).

Through this award, Professor Kang’s contributions were acknowledged for his role as Director of the Bioimaging Data Quality Leadership Center, supported by the Bio Research Data Utilization Infrastructure Project. His work has significantly advanced the self-reliance and sophistication of research resources in the bioimaging field. Professor Kang collaborated with researchers from Ewha Womans University, the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), the Korea Basic Science Institute (KBSI), and Dongguk University College of Medicine to expand the use of imaging analysis methodologies. His recognized achievements include collecting bioimaging datasets that have completed quality evaluation and registering them with the Korea Bio Data Station (K-BDS); developing and distributing standardized Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for each dataset; providing customized consultations for researchers and training programs for external researchers; fostering exchange and collaboration with international bioimaging data centers and domestic artificial intelligence expert groups; and publishing joint research papers related to bioimaging, all of which contributed to the dissemination and advancement of imaging analysis techniques.
