Kang Gyuyeon, a doctoral student in the Fashion Design major at Ewha Womans University (Advisor: Professor Park Sunhee), won the Best Paper Award after delivering an oral presentation titled “A RAG-Based Fashion Design AI Agent Utilizing Korean Traditional Costume Data” at the 2025 Joint Conference on Fashion and Culture (JCFC), held on Saturday, November 15, at the Textile Center in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. (왼쪽부터) 패션디자인전공 박사과정 강규연 씨, 2025 JCFC 표스터, 『AI 에이전트와 패션』

The conference was jointly hosted by three leading academic societies in the field of fashion in Korea—the Korean Society of Costume, the Korean Fashion Design Association, and the Korean Fashion Business Association—and was sponsored by the Korea Federation of Textile Industries. Under the theme “K-Fashion in the Spotlight: Strategies in the K-Culture Boom,” experts from academia and industry gathered to discuss ways to strengthen the global competitiveness of K-fashion and explore directions for its sustainable development. A total of 32 oral presentations and 156 poster presentations were delivered during the conference.

In her presentation, Kang Gyuyeon proposed a trustworthy design planning system that combines Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) technology with the verified traditional costume archives of the Seok Juseon Memorial Museum. The study addressed issues of data contamination and insufficient grounding often associated with general-purpose generative AI, demonstrating how reliable traditional costume data can be effectively integrated into an AI-based fashion design agent.

Meanwhile, Kang Gyuyeon has continued her research on generative AI-based fashion design. She previously received the Excellent Paper Award for her oral presentation titled “A Study on Generative AI Fashion Design Using LoRA-Based Fine-Tuning: Reproducing and Expanding the Design Characteristics of the Brand RE;CODE” at the 2025 Spring Conference of the Korean Fashion Design Association. She also published the book AI Agents and Fashion (Communication Books, November 3, 2025), further advancing scholarship at the intersection of fashion design and generative AI.
