Ewha has been forming a partnership with the global company Dior since March, based on a shared understanding between the two organizations that they both intend to contribute to fostering female talents, promoting gender equality and building a sustainable society. Through the partnership, Ewha and Dior are set to cooperate in hosting events including a Dior fashion show and maintain their cooperative relations in various fields, including student engagement, industry-academia cooperation and scholarship donations. As part of this partnership and the first event of its kind to be held in Korea, the “Dior Fall 2022 Show” at Ewha presented a unique stage on April 30 (Sat.) in the Ewha Campus Complex (ECC) building, a landmark facility on the Ewha campus that was designed by Dominique Perrault of France, who is renowned as one of the world’s top three architects. Dior’s Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri organized the show and presented a collection that highlighted the image of young, pioneering women. Ewha undergraduates and graduate students with prior experience as fashion show dressers participated in the show as backstage dressers and experienced the global stage. In addition, this event was linked to students’ learning and experience by allowing backstage props used in the event and materials used for setting the stage to be used again in the exhibitions and classes for Ewha undergraduates in the Fashion Design and Sculpture majors.

Meanwhile, a preview was also livestreamed for Ewha students only at the Welch-Ryang Auditorium. While the COVID-19 situation had forced most university events to be held online in a non-face-to-face format, the auditorium resounded with the enthusiasm of Ewha students for the first time in two years after sitting empty throughout the pandemic.

On May 1 (Sun.), a special talk between President Eun Mee Kim and Dior Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri was held at the Emerson Chapel and attended by 220 Ewha students. This talk was arranged as an opportunity for the two female leaders to share the importance and value of women’s empowerment and leadership and to present advice and knowhow to Ewha students who will grow into future leaders. Starting with the introduction of the background of the Ewha-Dior Partnership, Maria Grazia Chiuri and President Kim discussed various topics, including women’s leadership and sustainability in the fashion industry. Maria Grazia emphasized that all women have different personalities and voices, and President Kim also actively empathized with her opinion, explaining the meaning of respect for individual women as conveyed by the expression “Womans” in the English name of Ewha Womans University.

Through the new agreement, Ewha and Dior will maintain an ongoing partnership and engage in mutual exchanges through student engagement, industry-academia cooperation and scholarship donations.
