Ewha Womans University and Ewha ROTC Selected as Best University and Best ROTC for Five Consecutive Years

Ewha Womans University was selected as the “Best University” in the evaluation of universities with ROTC programs by the Ministry of National Defense, and its Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) as the “Best ROTC” by the Republic of Korea Army Training and Doctrine Command and the Army Cadet Military School for five consecutive years.

Ewha launched the ROTC program in 2016 with the aim to fulfill the growing demand for women’s advancement in society and contribute to strengthening Korea’s military competitiveness by nurturing outstanding female officers. The Ewha ROTC has produced elite female officers with robust leadership skills based on Ewha’s spirit of “Jin, Seon, Mi” (truth, goodness, and beauty), solidifying its status as the best ROTC in South Korea. In 2018, it was selected as the best ROTC of the year among 110 ROTCs across the country. In 2019, it was chosen as an “Excellent ROTC” in an evaluation by the Ministry of National Defense and the “ROTC with Excellent Wisdom, Trust, Courage (智·信·勇, Ji·Shin·Yong)” in an overall evaluation, and continued its outstanding record in this year's evaluation.

Despite its relatively short history compared to other universities, the Ewha ROTC is taking the lead in nurturing elite female junior military officers equipped with women’s distinct professionalism and attention to detail, based on a systematic education system. Ewha is actively supporting cadets to grow into outstanding female officers equipped with expertise by providing full scholarships during their training period and guaranteeing dormitory accommodations. In recognition of such exceptional infrastructure and performance, Ewha was evaluated as the “Best University” among those with ROTC programs for five consecutive years.

Ewha ROTC cadets are demonstrating superb abilities as the “Best ROTC” by undertaking various recruit training sessions such as winter and summer training and basic military training, taking courses in military studies such as leadership, security studies, and tactical studies, and diligently carrying out various activities through participation in domestic and overseas field trips, security debate competitions, and academic conferences.

At the starting ceremony for winter training, President Eun Mee Kim visited the training camp in person to express support for the candidates’ safe completion of training and emphasized that they are a source of immense pride for Ewha, encouraging them not to forget that they are the best wherever they are.

ROTC Commander Jeon Joong-hyeon stressed, “The five consecutive years of excellent evaluation results were only made possible thanks to the outstanding cadets at Ewha. The Ewha ROTC also has a significant advantage in that the school personnel including President Eun Mee Kim and the ROTC officers fully support the ROTC and seek to create the best environment for it.” He encouraged the ROTC candidates who are making a series of outstanding achievements such as winning the grand prize in an English debate competition and an award in a security debate competition, and all members passing their Taekwondo promotion tests. He also expressed his aspirations for the future by stating, “We will focus on fostering the talents required by the military and continue to train our candidates into women leaders with the mindset that the cadets from the 225th ROTC of Ewha Womans University are truly special.”
