Seegene Medical Foundation Donates Research Scholarship to Ewha Womans University and Ewha Medical Center

Ewha received the Ewha Medical Research Fund and the Seegene Medical Scholarship amounting to 300 million KRW from the Seegene Medical Foundation, a medical institute specializing in diagnostic examination. The foundation also donated 300 million KRW to the Ewha Medical Center for the construction of a new education center.

The Seegene Medical Foundation is a medical institute specializing in diagnostic examinations, which has been hailed as a top contributor to the “K-Quarantine” model since outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic by handling a third of all COVID-19 diagnostic tests in South Korea. The donation was made based on the cordial and longstanding partnership between Ewha and the foundation out of their shared commitment toward preparing for the “With Corona” policy and contributing to the health of humanity through innovative R&D.

At the donation ceremony held at Aryeong-dang on Wednesday, November 24, the Seegene Medical Foundation signed an agreement to donate the “Ewha Medical Research Fund” amounting to 100 million KRW and the “Seegene Medical Scholarship” amounting to 200 million KRW. The donation will help the College of Medicine to fulfil its role as part of the Ewha Leading-Edge Medi·Healthcare Cluster (ELEC) along with the Sinchon Campus, Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital and Seoul Hospital, and serve as a foundation for research exchanges to facilitate the convergence intermediary research and personalized medicine that are required by the times. It will also be used to nurture students as outstanding future convergence specialists who are equipped with computer-linked medicine capabilities and knowledge of the humanities to adapt to the future medical environment in the hyperintelligent and hyperconnected AI era.

The Seegene Medical Foundation will also donate 300 million KRW to the Ewha Medical Center for the establishment of “HuBIG (Human Bio Information Group) Education Center” at Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital and contribute to facilitating research there. The HuBIG Education Center is aimed at providing virtual learning courses to medical professionals through cadavers for exploring the human interior. Such platform building for future medicine is expected to significantly contribute to R&D and talent development. The foundation has also previously donated 100 million KRW for the reconstruction of the Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital Animal Laboratory in 2020.

Meanwhile, in addition to the donation, the foundation added a warm message promising to actively participate in and support Ewha’s project to ensure a safe campus in the era of “living with COVID-19.”
