Ewha College of Social Sciences Celebrates 30th Anniversary


The Ewha College of Social Sciences marked its 30th anniversary on May 27 at Lee Sam-bong Hall in the Ewha Campus Complex, reflecting on its achievements in education and research over the past 30 years and sharing the social sciences’ future role and vision for leading society. The occasion was celebrated by over 225 guests, including Eun Mee Kim, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Ewha Womans University; Ewha President Hyang-Sook Lee; Chung Young-ai, former Minister of Gender Equality and Family; Lee Yoon-hee, news anchor at KBS; faculty members, current students, and alumnae.

사회과학대학, 창립 30주년 기념 행사 단체사진Since its launch in 1996, the College of Social Sciences has operated eight departments, one division, four graduate programs, and five interdisciplinary majors, dedicating itself to convergence education and research with the goal of training capable minds who can navigate societal changes. In her commemorative remarks, Dean Eun-Young Chah noted that the College of Social Sciences dates back to the 1940s and affirmed that the college will continue to nurture promising intellects as it builds upon its 30-year mission of convergence education designed to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of humanity and society. President Hyang-Sook Lee weighed in on the growing importance of the social sciences in the era of great transformation, characterized by AI, the digital transformation, the climate crisis, and polarization in society, expressing her expectation that the College of Social Sciences will serve as a hub for promoting a human-centered future and inclusive innovation.

In the second session, Se-ung Kim, Vice President of AI Communications and AI Synergy at Kakao, delivered a special lecture about ideal talent in the age of AI, emphasizing that problem-defining skills, outcome-oriented AI proficiency, and domain expertise are the key competencies for future competitiveness. The event served as an opportunity for the College of Social Sciences to further expand its commitment to nurturing the convergence talent needed to navigate future societal changes and to promoting innovative research going forward.
