Ewha Pioneers Education in AI Era with Selection for Phase 4 of K-MOOC
Ewha Womans University has been selected by the Ministry of Education as a “leading university” for Phase 4 of the K-MOOC (Korea Massive Open Online Course) initiative, reaffirming its pioneering role in online open education. This is Ewha’s fourth consecutive time to be selected following its participation in Phases 1, 2, and 3 since the initiative’s launch in 2015. As part of the Ministry’s effort to expand lifelong learning opportunities in the AI and digital fields, ten universities were selected nationwide for the program. Under the Phase 4 initiative, Ewha plans to develop interdisciplinary courses that explore history, the arts, and global citizenship education in the AI era through the lens of the humanities and social sciences and to offer foundational courses on generative AI and large language models (LLMs).
Ewha will develop 12 new courses over the next three years, launching courses such as “A World History of Underdogs,” “Large Language Models for Everyone,” and “The Aesthetics of Technology and Art” in 2026 and rolling out interdisciplinary courses on topics including modern physics and AI, global citizenship education, and the Korean Wave and global culture in the years ahead. Through these efforts, Ewha aims to build an inclusive model of AI literacy that moves beyond a technology-centered approach and integrates the humanities, arts, and social sciences while also expanding credit exchanges among Korean universities and strengthening international educational cooperation.
To date, Ewha has developed 47 K-MOOC courses and offered them 448 times, with many of its courses being recognized through selection as Outstanding Courses and Blue-Ribbon Courses. Those courses have also been utilized on overseas MOOC platforms, at other universities, and in faculty training programs, winning acclaim for the quality and competitiveness of Ewha’s educational offerings.
