Ewha Hosts KBS Open Concert to Celebrate Its140th Anniversary
The KBS Open Concert, celebrating the 140th anniversary of the founding of Ewha Womans University, was held on May 11 at Welch-Ryang Auditorium and elsewhere on campus. The event was organized to reflect on Ewha’s history and identity and to foster solidarity and share a vision for the future, bringing together around 3,000 members of the Ewha community, including students, faculty and staff, alumnae, and representatives from Ewha Medical Center. The performance was broadcast live at ECC Valley to enable more students to share in the fun.
“Ewha’s 140-year history has been one of pioneering new possibilities beyond the limitations of past eras,” Ewha President Hyang-Sook Lee said in her welcoming remarks, adding, “Through the spirit of sharing and service, we continue to advance as a global university.”
The concert opened with a rendition of “Libiamo ne’ lieti calici” by Professors Guibee Yang and Jae Eun Park, accompanied by the Department of Voice choir from the College of Music. That duet was followed by performances from a diverse lineup of artists including Isaac Hong, Ye-Joon Lee, Hee-Jae Kim, Chan-Whee So, Mi-jo Jeong, NMIXX, and BOYNEXTDOOR, which further energized the crowd. BOYNEXTDOOR’s encore and N.Flying’s special show at ECC Valley drew a particularly enthusiastic response from the audience.
The KBS Open Concert is scheduled to air on KBS 1TV on May 31. In celebration of Ewha’s 140th anniversary, a variety of other commemorative events are being held across campus, including special exhibitions, graduation exhibitions, and the Daedong Festival.
