The Ewha Womans University College of Education and the Graduate School of Education were consecutively selected as grantees of projects to support the creation of the educational foundation for the future society under the supervision of the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science & Creativity (KOFAC), thereby demonstrating their capabilities as the best teacher education institution in Korea.

College of Education Selected as a Recipient of the AI Education Enhancement Program

The College of Education (Dean: Hwang Gyu-ho) was selected as the managing institution of a program titled “Artificial Intelligence (AI) education enhancement program at primary, middle, and high school teacher education colleges in 2021.” Supervised by the MOE and the KOFAC, the project supports prospective teachers to cultivate “AI education” capabilities, which are necessary for the reinforcement of AI education at primary, middle, and high schools. Each selected college will receive financial support of an annual average of 200 million KRW for three years, amounting to a total of 600 million KRW.

The project is operated in three categories. The Ewha College of Education was selected in the category of “AI convergence education,” designed for colleges of education that lack a dedicated department for computer education, along with the Seoul National University College of Education. Ewha, in particular, plans to support prospective teachers to design classes that can foster AI knowledge in relation to subject education and to develop the ability to skillfully utilize diverse AI-based educational technologies.

Hwang Gyu-ho, Dean of the College of Education, emphasized the importance of the selection, remarking, “It is a significant development in relation to the ongoing reorganization of the curriculum for 2022. It allows us to examine the direction of ‘AI literacy' education for students of future generations while also preparing in advance for the direction of teacher education that will become necessary to that end.”

The College of Education and the Graduate School of Education Consecutively Selected as a Recipient of the “Regional Center for Creativity Education” Project

The College of Education (Dean: Hwang Gyu-ho) and the Graduate School of Education (Dean: Han You-kyung) were consecutively selected as managing institutions of the “Regional Center for Creativity Education 2021” (PI: Chung Jae-young, Department of Education).

The “Regional Center for Creativity Education” project organized by the MOE and the KOFAC is a program that aims to foster creative personnel who will lead the future convergence era in preparation for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Ewha was solely selected as the managing institution of the project among colleges of education across the Seoul metropolitan area in 2018 and has contributed to strengthening teachers’ capacity in creativity education and spreading creativity education programs as a hub for the realization of creativity education. This year, the college’s outstanding capacity was recognized through its reselection as the three-year managing institution of the Regional Center for Creativity Education.

The Regional Center for Creativity Education will be supported and operated for three years from June 2021 to February 2024, and funded with 160 million KRW annually, amounting to a total of 480 million KRW. Ewha plans to operate the “AI-based Regional Center for Creativity Education” based on its operational achievements over the last three years, as well as its excellence in human and material resources for AI convergence education and its capacity as a national-level research and support center.

Accordingly, Ewha was selected as a recipient of the “College of Education Leading Creativity Education” program last year, and newly selected as a grantee of the “Regional Center for Creativity Education” and the “AI Education Enhancement Program” this year, which allowed the school to be selected as the managing institution for all three major projects supported by the MOE and the KOFAC, consolidating its status as Korea’s best teacher education institution and a leader of future education.
